MIDI Review & Technology
“What draws people to MIDI’s world of synthesizers, sequencers, sound samplers, speakers, and synchronization signals (not to mention cables, computers, clocks and chords) is the chance to sound good while making music on electronic instruments and to have a lot of fun doing it.”

While it is expected that students have had some experience with MIDI technology, I offer, in this chapter, a brief MIDI review and make recommendations regarding the technology required for optimum use of this eText. The MIDI review is presented here so that students are aware of the systems and terminologies associated with their workspace. Students need to understand these basic principles in order to troubleshoot their environment and enhance their performance within.
